Jaipongan, also known as Jaipong, is a popular traditional dance of Sundanese people, West Java, Indonesia. The dance was created by a person that is Gugum Gumbira,sundanese people. He created it based on traditional Sundanese Ketuk Tilu music and Pencak Silat movements. In 1961, Indonesian President Sukarno. ask for Indonesian musicians to created a kind of music genre that will be characteristic of Indonesia,caused by so many music genre from western came in Indonesia such as Rock, Jazz, and Pop, Then Jaipongan was created in that time. The name of jaipongan came from people mimicking of the sounds created by some of the drums in the ensemble.
