Ketoprak

Ketoprak is a type of performing art from Java. In the showing of kethoprak, skits interspersed with songs of Java, which is accompanied by gamelan sound. 
  Theme of the story in an assortment Ketoprak performances. Usually drawn from legend or history of Java. Many of the stories are taken from abroad. But the theme of the story never taken from the repertoire of the epic story (epic): Ramayana and Mahabharata. Because the show is not Ketoprak again later but become the puppet show. 

 These last few years, emerged a new genre; Ketoprak humor which aired on television. In this type of staging, many incorporated elements of humor. This art was born around 1920 in Solo, and culminating in the years around 1950 in Yogyakarta. Originally Ketoprak is a folk entertainment created by someone outside the kingdom. They set the stage and pretend to be a king, warrior, prince, princess, and whoever they want. In its development, entertainment of Ketoprak also in demand by people inside the kingdom. And in every performance there is always a comedian who makes Ketoprak become more alive. At first, the sound accompaniment of Ketoprak using pestle which is used as a rice pestle. These tools make noise: prak, prak, prak, which is the origin of the word Ketoprak. But this time the story of Ketoprak accompanied by gamelan rhythms and relentless. This is very interesting and enjoyable, especially if the show of Ketoprak that presented raised humor stories that can cause laughter.
